5 Breakfast Spots in Puerto de la Cruz – Personal Guide to My Favorite Morning Places

Until recently, breakfast in Puerto de la Cruz was… pretty average. Maybe it was the lack of options, maybe just a different attitude toward morning meals, but the thing is – there was not much to choose from.

However, over the past year, something shifted. Especially in the lower part of town, as new places started to pop up everywhere. Whether it’s the growing number of tourists or just a fresh take on what breakfast can be, one thing’s clear: finding a good spot for breakfast or brunch in Puerto de la Cruz is no longer a problem.

Recently, I got the perfect chance to explore it all when my husband and I had to stay in Puerto for over a week — our usual apartment in El Sauzal wasn’t available, and although we had a kitchen, we had zero interest in cooking. So I used that as an excuse to try a new breakfast spot almost every day.

Between this stay and previous visits (because we often love to go to Puerto de la Cruz for a day or just morning), I’ve built a solid list of my favorites.

You’ll find them below – from cheap breakfast options and more sophisticated brunch spots to proper English breakfasts and fresh bakery finds with healthy smoothie bowls that actually taste good.

So here’s exactly where to go for breakfast & brunch in Puerto de la Cruz and what to try at each place.

(On this one-week getaway, we stayed in this apartment, which was simple but nice and affordable. If you need a place to stay and it is available, I highly recommend it.)

While hunting for the best breakfast in Puerto de la Cruz, I also came across a few other interesting finds — new cool places to stay and experiences that are totally worth checking out while you’re in town.

Breakfast in Puerto de la Cruz – Where to Go & What to Try in Each Place

1. Mokita Experience

  • Breakfast served: from 9:00 to 11:30 only, but bagels and wraps are available throughout the day
  • Highlight here: smoothie and toast combo for €7.5, acai and yogurt bowls, quiet vibe, and creative plant-based breakfasts that actually taste amazing

This is my number one breakfast place in Puerto de la Cruz for a healthy start of the day. It is located on a quiet street (a bit away from the main central streets but still close to the old town) and focuses on fresh, plant-based ingredients, colorful smoothies, and creative toasts that look as good as they taste.

Their most popular option is the €7.5 combo: a smoothie and a loaded sandwich (you choose your type of bread and filling) – and trust me, it’s worth every cent. Fillings are mashed avocado, grilled vegetables, cream cheese, greens, or homemade hummus (whatever you choose).

Smoothies are packed with fresh fruit, and flavor combinations change often, which keeps things interesting if you have a few days in Tenerife north and come back more than once (I did).

Breakfast combos are available only for a short period, but it is possible to order some breakfast items later during the day. Also, they are open during many holidays, including the Christmas season on the island

The vibe is very relaxed — it’s quiet, decor is minimal and modern, and staff are genuinely kind. It’s not a place for a heavy, greasy breakfast, but if you’re in the mood for something lighter, energizing, and Instagram-friendly, Mokita is the spot.

2. Señorita Canelita

  • Breakfast served: all day long, however, technically, there’s no official breakfast menu here, just a few items that happen to work really well as a first meal of the day (but you can totally order them in the afternoon too)
  • Highlight here: rolls (cinnamon, pistachio, chocolate), bagels, smoothies, cocktails, and the cafe’s location

Honestly, from the outside (and even in the Google Maps photos), Señorita Canelita doesn’t really look like a breakfast spot — more like a bakery where you’d grab a quick pastry and coffee.

And pastries here are actually pretty good, especially the cinnamon rolls, which seem to be their signature thing (although do not expect the Scandinavian-style buns). But the coffee? Not so much. It was my least favorite part (even though I tried different types), but tastes differ, of course, and you may like it.

This is my favorite version of breakfast at this cafe, although other bagels (the one with ham) is also good

My husband likes to come here as early as possible, just to have a croissant with cappuccino

The surprise, though, is in the small food menu. They do these really tasty bagels with different fillings — I had one with salmon, salad, and cream cheese, and it was so good. Add a smoothie on the side, which was very filling on its own. So I’d say that breakfast here feels both light and satisfying.

Their eclairs are pretty good, we liked them more than buns

This place itself is tiny and low-key, with a kind of neighborhood feel. It is right by the DWO Nopal Hotel, which I mentioned above, on a lively street. It’s not fancy, but if you’re staying nearby and want something casual, tasty, and different from the usual tourist cafes — this is a great little spot.

3. Marboré Cafe

  • Breakfast served: from 9 to 12:00
  • Highlight here: breakfast plates that include eggs, a few types of toasts, tortilla patata, excellent cakes, smoothies, fresh juices, and specialty drinks (Irish and Scottish coffee, hot chocolate, barraquito)

We’ve been to this cafe before, but later during the day, usually to try their cakes with coffee (a huge selection of delish cakes here) and sandwiches, but this time we decided to come for breakfast, which turned out to be my favorite meal of the day in this cafe.

If you’re craving a proper English breakfast in Puerto de la Cruz, Marbore hits the spot. They serve generous portions with all the classics – eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, toast, and more, and all done just right.

Besides the English version, there is also a Canarian type of breakfast, American, and even some type of tropical with pineapple on the toast. But there is a chance to order just eggs if you prefer this more.

And the best part – this is one of the few places in town where you can have the cheapest breakfast in Puerto de la Cruz. We paid less than €13 for two of our breakfasts that included a cappuccino and coffee with milk.

Psst: I especially liked sitting on their patio, hiding behind the small trees, very peaceful there! Menu here is oriented towards English and German speakers, and waiters speak English.

4. Panaderia Relieve

  • Breakfast served: from 7:30 to 13, but many items are available to order during the whole day
  • Highlight here: fresh sourdough, croissants with savory fillings, coffee is amazing, and a calm, stylish spot that’s more than just a bakery

This place feels a bit more upscale than your average bakery, even though it is among the cheapest breakfast spots in Puerto de la Cruz Old Town. It’s bright, modern, and very organized — kind of a mix between a cafe and a patisserie, with beautiful displays that make you want to try everything.

It’s a great spot if you’re into freshly baked breads and more refined breakfasts.

They have a couple of set breakfast combos (as of now from €9.7 to €11.5) — one with sourdough bread, jamon, butter, an omelette, a pastry, juice, and coffee. Another one is a bit lighter, with yogurt, muesli, and tomato toast. I like that everything tastes fresh and homemade here, and you can tell they care about ingredients.

But there are also other options available – like different toasts or croissants with various fillings.

Their barraquito is incredibly delicious too (and made just right), one of the best in the area

They also pack breakfast to go. We like grabbing their toasted sandwiches and heading out to the oceanside

Although here’s the weird part — they still don’t have a proper, updated menu (that slow Canarian lifestyle). The online one, which you can access through the barcode, is missing a few things they actually serve. For example, they do have things like a croissant stuffed with chicken (or chicken and cheese + veggies, which we love), and toasted sandwiches with prosciutto — but none of that is written anywhere.

You have to ask directly what they have for breakfast that’s not on the menu, or just tell them what you want and see if they can make it. A few of the women working there speak English and are super helpful when it comes to picking something.

It does get a bit busy later in the morning during all seasons and weather, and often difficult to get a table, but hang around for a bit, tables turn over pretty quickly.

Also, their pastries and cakes are very good, worth saving space for — especially if you like things that look as good as they taste.

5. Arena Coffee & Crepes

  • Breakfast served: from 10:00 on Wed & Thur (or 10:30 on Fri-Sun) to 14:00
  • Highlight here: sweet and savoury crepes, stylish brunch setting, and a tempting spot if you’re up for something a little fancier

I haven’t eaten here myself yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things from friends, especially about their sweet crepes and brunch deals. I’ve walked past it many times and always felt tempted to stop for a crepe and tea, especially with how cozy the place looks from the outside.

They specialize in both sweet and savoury crepes (things like salmon with cream cheese, or Nutella and banana, you can see the full menu below, which I photographed recently), plus a few brunch-style dishes like toast with toppings, Canarian-style sandwiches, cheese boards, and smoothies.

It’s not your typical casual breakfast spot though. Food prices here are higher compared to other places in town, so it’s more of a sit-down and eat-it-slowly brunch cafe rather than a grab-and-go bakery.

If you’re looking for a full-on late crepe breakfast or a relaxed weekend brunch, this might be the place. Just keep in mind that it’s not the cheapest option around.

NOTE: After 4 pm, they turn into a hookah bar with a slightly different menu, but crepes stay available until late hours.
